Nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT)

An inflammatory condition, Periodontal disease (Periodontitis) is a chronic
noncommunicable disease (NCD) which involves a complex interaction between pathogenic
bacteria, environmental and habitual factors, where it is linked to conditions such as
diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, heart disease, and cancer. Apart from the usual
suspects; inactivity, smoking and obesity; strains of Porphyromonas gingivalis and
Tannerella forsythia bacteria have been implicated in an increased risk of periodontitis.
A multifactorial disease, Periodontitis needs proper management and treatment to reduce
its effects, and eliminate the disease. Nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) has been
shown to improve the Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) in patients after treating
stage 2 and stage 3 of periodontal desease
